Baby Loves Chocolate

No, I haven't been feeding her chocolate. I've been told I'm not allowed to do that until at least her first birthday. But nobody's told me that she's not allowed to smell chocolate, right?

Let me back up a little. Turns out Elise hates it when you blow in her face. I've been told that I did too when I was her age. I've also been told that when I wasn't getting my way, I would hold my breath until I turned blue and passed out. The only way to get me to stop doing that was to blow in my face. Bearing this in mind, I've tried blowing in Elise's face when she's screaming her head off. It doesn't make her stop completely, but it does make her take pause.

When she's not unhappy, blowing lightly in her face seems to be okay. But one day I noticed that blowing lightly in her face after eating a chocolate truffle made her smile. As the taste dissipated from my mouth, I noticed that blowing lightly into her face didn't cause the huge smiles that it had. So I ate another truffle and blew in her face again. Huge smile!

Today I took out a piece of chocolate and held it in front of her nose. No much of a reaction. So I blew lightly across it, to help the smell reach her nose. She got all sorts of happy and excited! She was laying on her back, but that didn't stop her from trying to dance! She may not have tasted chocolate on her tongue yet, but she seems to absolutely adore the smell. She'll be a world-class chocolatier yet!

It's good to start her early. No sense in having her eat the junk our parents gave us (Nestle powdered chocolate milk -- yick).

Why can't she have chocolate?

Couldn't tell you. And apparently it's two years, not one. Maybe it's kind of like why she can't have honey until she's at least a year old. Or maybe it's because she's so small, the caffeine affects her, even in its trace amounts.

Just curious whether it's the pediatrician's rule or what. The honey one is pretty universal - honey contains botulism spores that can affect infants. Of course, that's just unpasturized honey, but they like to cover all their bases.

Listen to me - such a know it all.

Okay, for some reason I forgot when I posted on this that Elise is only 3 months old and not some toddler that's been munching on solids for months. Sorry. Mommy brain. Carry on.

Do you have more pictures?
